At the recent Pie Palooza event, the Platte Canyon Health District Committee proudly introduced a new community treasure: “Livin’ and Cookin’ in the Park.”
This 142-page custom-created cookbook captures the spirit of Park County through recipes, photos, and stories from those who call this rugged mountain region home. The collection highlights local culinary favorites—from hearty, high-altitude dishes to sweet family traditions—while weaving in the rich history that defines our Colorado mountain community.
Lovingly compiled by local volunteers, the book features:
Recipes contributed by longtime Park County residents
Striking photos of wildlife, scenery, and small-town life
Historic and modern stories about the people who shaped South Park and surrounding communities

It’s more than a cookbook—it’s a keepsake celebrating Park County’s heritage, its neighbors, and its natural beauty. Every page reflects the pride and generosity of those who live here.
All proceeds from “Livin’ and Cookin’ in the Park” directly support efforts to establish a Platte Canyon Health Service District in northeast Park County—an initiative aimed at improving access to healthcare in our rural mountain region.
You can purchase a copy of the cookbook at Chill Squirrel Trading Company, located at 47 County Rd 68 in Rustic Square, Bailey, while supplies last. Or you can send an email to Deb Elsner and we'll figure out how to get you a copy.
A taste of Park County’s past, present, and heart—all in one book, all for a healthier tomorrow.
